"The Pot Hunters have killed the Frank Mullen Triples and the Thom Brown Pairs."
Pot Hunters? "Look at the entries over the past 2-3 years"
Over the past 3 years the winners of the Thom Brown Pairs have been, myself & Kath and John Kane & Jim Irving.
Ten years previous?
1999 - Jack Shepherd & Alec Swann
1998 - Ali Strachan & Vince Stewart
1997 - Jim Fernie & Alex Sherman
Mmmmmmm! Just what is your definition of Pot Hunter, Lucky & why have these members "killed" these competitions?
Surely, any criticism should be aimed at those members who DON'T take part in these competitons!
Also, "a good atmosphere" is not something you can simply produce, it takes a number of ingredients.
PARTICIPATION - Yes, we need more members taking part in these competitions, but that is in addition to the members who already compete!
HELP - If you cannot commit to a whole days play, why not help out for an hour or two?
SUPPORT - If nothing else, just come along! By doing so, you will be supporting both the club and the competition.
There is nothing wrong with the actual competitions.
Craig E King, hit the nail on the head - "it's sheer apathy on the part of the members who don't play"

This is amazing! Sorry Lucky - on this rare occasion I'm in full agreement with Jim, Ali and John on this one. The main reason for the decline in these tournaments is solely down to the apathy of the vast majority of members - nothing whatsoever to do with the perceived 'pot hunters'.
I've been looking through the lists of winners of these two competitions and, with the exception of very few years, any of the teams on the winners lists could be deemed as 'pot hunters', just because they are all decent/good bowlers. The 'better' teams have usually won these competitions and that didn't stop there being a huge entry in previous decades so the 'pot hunters' argument just doesn't stand up.
Lucky - like John, I find it confusing that when there's declining participation in these competitions you choose to attack the bowlers who take part and support the competitions every year, rather than have a go at the members who can't be arsed!??? A strange thought process...
